The WSCC model is student-centered and emphasizes the role of the community in supporting the school, the connections between health and academic achievement and the importance of evidence-based school policies and practices.

Evidence-Based Actions

The New Jersey Department of Health, in collaboration with the three regional grantee agencies of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) School Health NJ Project compiled this list of additional evidenced-based/-informed actions. Many of these actions were adapted from Sustainable Jersey for Schools (SJS). SJS is a certification program for New Jersey public schools that want to go green, conserve resources, and take steps to create a brighter future. The intent of this list is to provide schools and their community partners with resources to implement the WSCC model and improve health and wellness in schools.

Sustainable Jersey for Schools actions are designed with flexibility to meet the varying needs of all districts and schools. Successful completion of actions contributes points towards Bronze or Silver certification and Digital Schools Star recognition.
