Cape May County Special Services Health and Wellness Team is very proud of all that we have accomplished this year with the assistance of AtlantiCare's Whole School, Whole Child, Whole Community grant, as well as their Healthy Schools, Healthy Children grants. We had three actions on our School Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), and we were able to complete all of them.

We now have two hygiene product closets fully stocked for both Cape May County High School and Ocean Academy. High school Autism teacher Liz Moody and Ocean Academy Multiple Disabilities teacher Carly Taylor ordered all of the necessary supplies. Their students unboxed the supplies and helped organize and inventory them. The teachers created order forms and distributed them to teachers. When orders come in, the students gather the requested items and deliver them to the classroom.

We held our annual Staff Health and Wellness Day on February 12, 2026. Staff members were invited to come to our large staff cafeteria for grab-and-go snacks and bottled water. We served fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, berries, Kind bars, individual packs of nuts, and oatmeal cups. Staff members were also given three raffle tickets for a chance to win one of ten prize baskets.

On April 2, 2026, our students were invited to an assembly to watch professional BMX stunt rider Chris Poulos perform a variety of tricks and talk about social-emotional topics such as perseverance, respect, kindness, responsibility, and determination. Chris was very engaging and entertaining, and all of the students, from Pre-K to age 21, had a blast!

With additional funds, our Health and Wellness Team was also able to provide prizes for our SEL Day/Read Across America Week and $25 Amazon gift cards for our Fall and Spring Walk and Roll Challenges.

One of our high school classes participated in AtlantiCare's Green Mustache contest. The class made a healthy green smoothie and held a taste test against a store-bought smoothie. The students chose which of the two they preferred, created a tally sheet, and then made a bar graph of the results. We took pictures of their green mustaches and hung everything in the hall for all to see.

Cape May County Special Services Health and Wellness Team appreciates AtlantiCare's continued support of our staff, students, and their families.
