Starting in the fall, we were able to use many of the SEL components of self-awareness, self-management, and relationship-building through varied activities. We had a pie baking/tasting contest for the staff. The staff loved the idea and the camaraderie that was displayed during this event. The winning staff members received prizes that were purchased with grant money. In the winter, we had a gratitude staff shout-out presentation to ensure our non-teaching staff members got recognized. Then, we worked diligently to create various staff wellness activities that included a paraffin hot-wax session, yoga sessions (in May), and staff trivia. Toward the end of the winter, our committee worked with several YAB members to complete a positive affirmations bulletin board in the library.
The spring season continued to highlight even more WSCC Model and SEL components through an assortment of events such as Family Game Night, Family Reading Night, the Diverse Voices Poetry Cafe, and more. For Family Game Night, we utilized the majority of our AtlantiCare funds to provide prizes and healthy snacks. Finally, the school year will conclude with another trivia contest. The winning individuals will receive prizes purchased with the AtlantiCare grant. With the remaining money, we were able to buy tumblers for the staff, which will promote school camaraderie and healthy living. Ms. Guzman approved that the tumblers could be given out next year as a welcome gift for staff. These events were held by the school's Professional Development and Wellness Team, but the grant was completed by two staff members, Audrey Griess and Dianna DeFiore.
