As screen time and digital distractions continue to rise among students and families, schools face the growing challenge of fostering meaningful, in-person engagement. Research shows that family involvement in school events is linked to better student performance, improved attendance, and stronger school communities. Recognizing this need, Hammonton High School sought to create a space for families to reconnect and celebrate creativity without screens, while also showcasing student talent and engaging the wider community.
On Wednesday, May 14th, Hammonton High School hosted a vibrant Family Game Night in conjunction with its Annual Art Show from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event was open to all ages and welcomed over 100 attendees. Organized by the Hammonton Education Association with support from AtlantiCare, the event offered screen-free board games, bingo, coloring, raffles, and eSports demos. Participants received free t-shirts, and prizes like Jenga and bean bag toss sets created excitement at the giveaway tables.
The event successfully leveraged community partnerships, including support from AtlantiCare, and demonstrated how multiple school departments—arts, music, culinary, student clubs, and teachers—can collaborate for a shared goal.

Program Activity Outcomes:
As a result of the program, over 100 students and family members participated in a meaningful, tech-free evening that promoted family bonding, creativity, and school pride. Long-term, this model has set a precedent for future cross- departmental collaboration and may inspire other family engagement events.
Conclusion:
Hammonton High School’s Family Game Night and Art Show proved that meaningful, low-cost events can have a high impact on community engagement. By focusing on collaboration, creativity, and fun, this event fostered school spirit and brought families together in a screen-free environment. With strong community support and demonstrated student participation, the school plans to continue hosting similar events to further strengthen school-home partnerships and build a more connected, supportive educational environment.
